Saw Sherlock Holmes tonight (at bloody last!). It was just as good as I expected it to be, if not maybe even slightly better.

It's still odd to me though how many fans Robert Downey Jr now has. I've been a fan of his for at least a good eight years now? And I remember when I used to list him as one of my favourite actors people used to roll their eyes and be like "how can you like that drug addicted good for nothing???". It just makes me laugh how quickly people change their minds over someone. Since Iron Man everyones a fan. Even my mum XD

And a music meme because I'm bored... )

Good riddance 2009
01. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
Went all the way to London ALL ON MY OWN. Which might not sound like a lot to you, but for me it was a huge step to independence.

02. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Yes, I would say I did pretty well with my resolutions. I procrastinated less and got a hell of a lot done in the process, and I learnt to manage my money a whole lot better. And no I won't bother making resolutions again next year. I only forget them by February.

03. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope.

04. Did anyone close to you die?
No thankfully.

05. What countries did you visit?
England. Not even the UK, just England.

06. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
Success. With a number of different things.

07. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
June 22nd. Seriously, that trip to London helped me so much and made me realise so many things, and I had a bloody good time thrown into the bargain.

08. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Just all the lessons I learnt. 2009 was seriously the year of learning and discovery for me.

09. What was your biggest failure?
Still being in the same place as I was last year (ie still working a dead end job I don't like and still living with my parents. And still being single). But I'm ok with that, because unlike this time ast year, I have plans.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Yep, both in the same week. I broke my first bone (my foot) and was hospitalised for the first time in my life (which I'm still suffering from, though its getting better and healing)

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My London trip.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I don't know. I'll say my friends at Pleasure Island, they helped me realise alot of things.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Friends that aret no longer my friends.

14. Where did most of your money go?
On my car -_-

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
London. It's really the ony interesting thing that happened to me all year.

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
Uprising by Muse <333

17. Compared to this time last year, you are:
Older

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Drawing. Though I'm back on track. But enough drawing can never be done.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Crying. No one likes crying.

20. How will you be spending/did you spend Christmas?
With my parents. I'm determined to enjoy it as it could (hopefully) be my last Christmas whilst I'm actually living at home annd getting to help plan it all with my mum.

21. How will you be spending New Year's Eve?
At the hospital. And nothing in the night, I can't be bothered.

22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
Nope.

23. How many one-night stands?
None, not my style.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
No new ones. Friends is always my favourite.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hate is probably a bit strong, but I felt badly hurt by people that I trusted with my whole heart and that I don't forgive. Dislike would be more appropriate.

26. What was the best book you read?
Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. I only wish I'd not been such a silly billy and read it sooner.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Probably just Paloma Faith. I mostly just listen to the same old music I've always listened to.

28. What did you want and get?
To go to London. And some pretty additions to my wardrobe.

29. What did you want and not get?
A lot.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Hmm, its differcult. I certainly can't remember all the new films I saw this year, and there was nothing remarkable that stands out most in my memory. And some films I wanted to see I never got round to. I liked The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, The Hannah Montana Movie (don't laugh, I liked it!), and Angels and Demons. Oh an Up of course!

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 21 and just went out for a really nice meal with my folks.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
If I had succeeded with something.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
I have no idea. I don't even have a style I just wear things I like.

34. What kept you sane?
Music and my art, especially the two together.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Still Robert Downey Jr.

35. What was your favorite video game of the year?
Worms for my Nintendo DS. It's an old game, but it was new for me this year

36. Who has made the most cameos in your dreams this year?
I actually very rarely remember my dreams, so I've no idea.

37. Who did you miss?
Sarah. But she chose to take sides.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
All my friends from Pleasure Island as they taught me alot about myself (often without realising it).

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
That Dory's right: You gotta just keep swimming and it'll all turn out and fall into place eventually.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile even though its breaking
When there are clouds in the sky,
You'll get by
If you smile,
Through your fear and sorrow
Smile, and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through
For you

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear
May be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile.

Day 09 → A photo you took

Squirrel

I take a lot of photos so it was hard to pick, but I settled on this little guy. It was taken two years ago at a point when I was really happy in life and totally care free. Plus its a fucking SQUIRREL. And not a single bit of this photo is zoom, I really was that close to it. He was so tame and cute. And rather fat because everyone was feeding him.

Day 03 → Your favourite TV Show

Always has been and always will be Friends. I've seen every single episode at least 30 times each over the years and it never gets old or fails to make me laugh and it always cheers me up when I'm feeling down. I don't really watch TV, mostly it bores me, and this is the only TV show I've ever been crazy about and liked to the extent of seeing every single episode.

Day 02 → Your favourite movie

The Godfather Part I is without doubt my favourite film of all time. I get excited everytime I see it I love it so much. It is just film making at its absolute finest, and I don't care if it's considered overrated by some, it deserves its popularity. It's beautiful to look at and watch, the directing, the acting, the score is all superb, theres not a single thing about it I could fault. And I adore the story too, the book by Mario Puzo is also one of my favourite novels and he translated it to the screen perfectly.

I love the whole Godfather Trilogy (well, I love Part II, Part III I can take it or leave it to be honest) but Part I is the best in my opinion.

So many books, so little time!
Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] sheerpoetry

What book are you reading now? What are your favorite books? [You can put specific books or genres or both.]
At the moment I'm reading Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. I've read it once already, I'm just going through it again as it felt like alot to take in first time round and I didn't feel like everything sunk in. I read quite a variety of books, probably mostly the classic and horror genres though.

How did you learn to read?
The usual way? Seems abit of a silly question.

What foreign languages do you read?
I've struggled through French before, but struggled being the key word. I prefer to stick to English.

What 's the funniest book you ever read?
Hmm, I've not read a funny book in a long time. Probably Lousie Rennison's Georgia Nicholson books? I certainly can't remember ever laughing as hard at a book as I have done with those.

What books have changed the way you look at the world or the way you live your life?
To be honest I always find it abit melodramatic when people say that a book changed them like that. But maybe thats just because its never happened to me? I enjoy many books and many have given me some real food for thought, but non have ever affected me like that.

What are some of the scariest books you've ever read?
Alot of horror books I just don't find scary. The worst was probably It by Stephen King. I'll certainly never look at clowns the same way again. Thats the only book to have creeped me out to the stage that I'm jumping at every house creek.

About how many books do you own?
Not many actually, I delibrately limit myself as I hope to move out soon and don't want to have to lug a load of books around with me (I have too much other crap to lug around as it is). According to my Shelfari I have 37, but thats not all of them. I would guess maybe 55-60? Including graphic novels and everything.

How many books per month do you usually borrow from the library?
I really don't make enough use out of the library, I really should. I always just buy books. And as I'm trying to limit myself lately, I'm just going without, so the library is the best place for me really. I used to live in the library.

How much would you say you've paid in library fines in your life?
£0.00. I'm a good girl, I've never been late with a book. If I want to keep it longer I just re-hire it out again.

Do you read in bed? Do you ever read while walking or driving?
Yep, lately I always read before going to bed. Which is a habit I wish I'd never gotten into as now I find it difficult to read during the day without it making me sleepy. I've never read whilst driving though, surely thats against the law?

Do you listen to audio books?
No, they bore me to tears. I like to read stuff at my own speed, and to be able to stop and mull over what I've just read and imagine it all happening. Audio books just eliminate being able to do any of that.

Has anyone ever read aloud to you or you to them? Tell us more.
My parents used to read to me when I was little, and when I studied English and we read books aloud I was sometimes chosen to read certain sections.

What book was the most difficult to read?
A Clockwork Orange I just gave up on on the second page and I have no desire to revisit it. I skipped loads of The Hunchback of Notre Dame too, I found that one really hard to get into. I used to think it was Victor Hugo's writing style, but I absolutely devoured Les Mis so it can't be.

Do you read every word of a book, or skip parts that don't hold your interest?
See above. I skipped quite alot of Hunchback of Notre Dame, but generally I try and read it all. I usually feel that if I haven't read every word then I have no right to claim that I've read it because I haven't read all of it. I'm a pretty fast reader though so its generally not an issue as the duller bits I just get through quicker.

Do you buy new or used books, paperbacks or hardbacks, leather or collector's items?
I love owning old books. Absolutely adore, the older and prettier the better! I like owning hardbacks too, but I only buy hardback books when I already know I like the book, otherwise they just fill up extra space which I'm limited on as it is. Generally I usually just buy paperbacks though. And I have an adversion to second hand books. I get over this for old books, but for other books I'd rather spend the extra and get it new. I dunno why, I'm just a serious germaphobe.

How do you feel about writing in books, dog earing, etc.
Haha, you should see some of my paperbacks! Paperbacks I generally don't care about, I'll happily bend the spine, fold corners, and if its a book I'm using for study purposes then I write and highlight in them too. I dunno, I don't see an issue in a book looking a bit beaten up. I like to think all my paperbacks look well read and loved :) Hardbacks though are a whole other story, I'm completely fussy about those.

What is the first book you remember reading?
The one I remember best was Dear Zoo.

Do you lend your books?
No. I've had too many bad experiences of never getting them back, so if someone asks I'll usually try and fob them off with an excuse and hope they forget I own it.

What were your favorite books when you were a child?
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, Jacqueline Wilson books, fairy tales and The Worst Witch books.

What children's books do you most enjoy as an adult?
I still read alot of picture books, I love the artwork in some of them. And sometimes I enjoy flicking through my old Jacqueline Wilson books. I'm never sure if Alice in Wonderland counts as a childrens book or not? I don't consider it so, but alot of other people do.

Have you ever read a book more than once?
Hahahaha! Of course! I love the re-read books, especially when I notice stuff I missed first time. The first time you read a book is to get the general story. The next time is to pick up on the foreshadowing and memorise all the little details. I much more enjoy books the second time around (or third, or forth, or fifth!)
